Home Basics takes in donated furniture, household and electrical items for re-sale inexpensively to those on low incomes living in the Scottish Borders. Special discounts are given to those referred by local agencies. We also promote the general principle of recycling and re-use.


Current opportunities

Sales of furniture and home goods to the general public from our shop in Hawick. To be part of an expanding social enterprise working within a small happy team to help people on low incomes. Home Basics reuses donated items of furniture, white goods, electrical items and furnishings and sells them at reduced cost to those in need. Surplus is sold to the general public to support the charity. Following a change in premises we now require sales staff to work directly with the general public Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm.

Home Basics (Hawick) needs volunteers to assist our van driver with collections and deliveries of furniture from our warehouse at Hawick. Home Basics is a Borders-based charity providing second-user furniture to individuals and families throughout the area.

Home Basics has a small Board of Directors who assist in overseeing the work of this local charity. Our aim is to support families and people on low incomes furnish their homes or set up their first home by providing affordable furniture, household items and electrical goods. There are always further opportunities to become more directly involved with the charity in a practical hands-on basis providing the Director with a feel for the day to day operation of the business. Providing knowledge and expertise in an area of benefit to the charity. Experience in business, marketing and financial management is particularly beneficial and advantageous to Home Basics. Attending regular evening meetings (six weekly). Taking on specific responsibilities in which you have a personal interest or knowledge.
