South East Scotland Scouts prepares young people with skills for life - helping them speak up and play their part. Each week we give over 6,000 young people aged 6 to 25 the skills they need for school, college, university, the job interview, the important speech, the tricky challenge, and the big dreams: the skills they need for life across South East Scotland.
By 2023 Scouts will have prepared more young people with skills for life, supported by amazing leaders delivering an inspiring programme. We will be growing, more inclusive, shaped by young people and making a bigger impact in our communities.

Being a Scout Leader is so rewarding. Pick up practical and leadership skills but the real joy likes in helping young people to grow and develop and make new friends (and memories).
Impact of COVID - a shortage of leaders has left children stuck on a waiting list. We have opportunities for Scout Leaders across the region.
Have fun! Our adult volunteers get just as much out of Scouting as our young people do. As well as helping young people to the adventure of Scouting, you’ll also have fun, make friends, develop new skills and have unforgettable experiences. Also....
Delivery of a Balanced Programme:
• Delivery of a safe, exciting and stimulating Balanced Programme for the Section taking into account the needs, interests and abilities of the young people.
• Ensure the safe delivery of the programme in accordance with the Policy, Organisation and Rules of The Scout Association.
• Ensure that every young person in the Section has the opportunity to attend at least one nights away experience each year.
• Actively support and promote the achievement of badges and awards in particular the Chief Scouts’ Award.
• Actively work with other adults in the Group to support and promote Group or multi-section activities and events.
• Ensure regular opportunities are provided for young people to express their views on the programme and running on the Section, and that those views are taken into account (for example using Log Chews, Pack, Troop, Sixer or Patrol Leader forums, or any other method).
• Actively co-operate with other section leaders to promote the Moving On from Section to Section.
Operation of the Section:
• Work with the Group Scout Leader, the Group Executive Committee and others to support recruiting and inducting appropriate Assistant Leaders and Section Assistants.
• Agree responsibilities with Assistant Section Leaders, Section Assistants and parent helpers taking into account the development of the individual’s leadership potential.
• Ensure accurate records are kept of the young people in the Section in accordance with the Data Protection Act and pass these records to the Section Leader when the young person reaches the age to move up to the next Section.
• Regularly review the operation of the Section.
• Make and maintain good relationships with parents/carers of the young people. This may include running a parent rota and/or inviting parents to support camps or other residential experiences.
Kelso Scout Group Secretary ... are you an organised person? Do you have good admin skills?
You will play a key role by leading the administrative agenda for the Scout Group. No previous secretarial experience is required, we just need someone who is good at note taking, keeping records, and admin support.
No previous Scouts experience, no problem! This is a non-uniformed volunteering role.

The Secretary will support the Chair of the Executive Committee to ensure the smooth functioning and sound administration of the Scout Group for instance.
• Provide administrative support to the running of the Executive Committee.
• Work with the Chair of the Executive Committee to set meeting agendas and arrange meeting logistics for the Executive Committee.
• Communicating with the Executive Committee and relevant Scout Council.
• Preparing the appropriate administration for the Annual General Meeting, including collating the Annual.
• Report and Accounts for the Annual General Meeting.

Though ‘Executive’ sounds a bit formal, it is not like that at all! We are a relaxed group of like-minded individuals!
This role is ideal for those who do not necessarily wish to work directly with young people but would like to help to support and develop Scouting a couple of hours or so a month.
Training Advisers (TA) provide adult Scouts training support to help our young people be the best they can be. You can join Scouts as a TA with no Scouting experience. Yes, we couldn’t deliver Scouting without our TAs!
No previous Scouts experience, no problem! This is a non-uniformed volunteering role. And if you aren’t an existing training provider please don’t worry – it’s the passion, interest and relatable skills which count.
Role Description :
Trainers are key to the volunteer training scheme at the Scouts. Training Advisers (TA) have an essential job in providing support to those undertaking training for their appointment in Scouting. The key role of a TA is to support a learner through The Scouts’ Adult Training Scheme. Our excellent South East Scotland Scouts TA team provide our volunteers with superb assistance, the tools and tips to feel trained, supported and happy in your role.
As a TA you will help adults navigate through the training process. You'll start by identifying the training needs for the person concerned and agreeing a Personal Learning Plan (PLP), planning how these needs can be met, validate training and possibly presenting some key modules as part of your learning or skills presentations. You will work with a wider experienced Training Team to support our learners.
The ultimate goal is to help our adult leaders secure their 'Wood Badge' which you'd play a pivotal role as this will mean they can deliver the best scouting experience for our young people today and tomorrow. Our training is award-winning and you have the chance to be part of this amazing experience - learning and growing as you go.
We are looking for new faces to join our expanding training team in line with our recovery post covid and ongoing growth.
This role is ideal for anyone with a couple of hours a month who is keen to give back to their community, help our young people realise their potential, do good and use their existing skills.

We have a new role a Regional Administrator. Geography is no barrier to this. The role can be done at home so is open to anyone in our Region who lives in the Borders. This role is ideal for anyone with a couple of hours a month who is keen to give back to their community, help our young people realise their potential, do good and use their existing skills.
South East Scotland Scouts provides Scouting for 4-25 year olds. We’re growing our friendly and talented team to help us deliver more skills for life across Scotland. The Regional Administrator will support the Regional Commissioner to ensure the smooth functioning & sound administration of the Region. We are looking for a responsible person to perform a variety of administrative and clerical tasks. This role is flexible in location & time. No previous experience of Scouting is required.
As this is a flexible role, the below are just are some examples of tasks that a Regional Administrator might undertake.

* Provide administrative support to the running of Regional Leadership Meets and to the Regional Commissioner.
* Work with the Regional Commissioner to set meeting agendas and arrange meeting logistics for Regional Leadership Team meetings.

* Ensuring the safety and security of records, complying with appropriate legal requirements.
