Royal Voluntary Service (Scottish Borders Hub)

Charity registered in Scotland SC038924

Every day Royal Voluntary Service helps thousands of older people to live the life they want. We provide practical services in homes, in hospitals and in communities all across England, Scotland and Wales so people can be independent and active. Royal Voluntary Service is one of the largest voluntary organisations and much of our work is supporting older people. We provide practical solutions to the everyday problems of loneliness and isolation. Volunteers are vital to the work of Royal Voluntary Service. Without them Royal Voluntary Service simply wouldn't exist. Our volunteers come from all walks of life, men or women, young or older and we've got something for everyone, including specialist roles such as this. Anyone who volunteers for Royal Voluntary Service knows that they are joining a charity which people trust - our style is practical, positive, personal and professional. Royal Voluntary Service is committed to being an Investing in Volunteers organisation.

Do you enjoy driving and want to make a difference to the lives of older people in your local area? Become a Community Transport Volunteer and help to keep older people in touch with their communities. Community Transport Volunteers are needed to help older people get out and about to stay engaged with their local communities. Typical journeys may include driving someone to a GP appointment, driving them to the shops, taking them to a social club or to visit friends and family. This is an ideal opportunity if you want to make new friends, to be part of a team, to develop your skills and experience and contribute to the work of the charity by enriching the lives of older people and helping them get the best from life. You’ll need to have a friendly personality, an understanding of the needs of older people with the ability to observe and identify areas of concern. You’ll have good communication and listening skills with a non-judgemental attitude towards an individual’s circumstances and a willingness to ensure confidentiality. Training will be provided and you’ll be reimbursed for out of pocket expenses.
