Current opportunities

Volunteer Centre Borders is looking to recruit a board member for the role of Treasurer. If you would like to become involved with a dynamic Third Sector organisation where the promotion and support of volunteering is the core of our work, we would like to recruit you to share your management and financial skills.

Volunteer Centre Borders' vision is to be recognised as the first point of contact for volunteering advice, information and opportunities and to provide guidance and support to enable best practice in volunteering in the Scottish Borders. To help us achieve this vision we are currently recruiting for new Board Members. We already have a broad range of skills on our board but if you have a passion for volunteering, a knowledge of the third sector, management and strategic expertise we would be very interested in speaking to you. This is an opportunity to help shape the development of an organisation that is playing a significant part in addressing social isolation, inactivity and inequality across the Scottish Borders as well as contributing to sporting and cultural pursuits. It is also an opportunity to develop your skills in areas such as leadership and governance.

With the support of Volunteer Centre Borders you could plan projects, support young people in having a voice in the Third Sector, help local charities, promote the Saltire Awards scheme...with benefits to get training and various awards along the way! This is open to anyone from 13 -18 years of age. This group will help to change the way the Third Sector see young volunteers. You will meet as a group once a month to plan projects, look at gaps in volunteering, and share your knowledge with the wider Borders. You will also be the leading link between young people and the schools/colleges in helping to focus volunteering as a priority for young people in achieving active involvement in social change. You will decide as a team how to highlight important issues around young people and volunteering in the Scottish Borders and how to involve your peers in celebrating the positive contributions young people make in the Third Sector in the Scottish Borders. We will be looking at all members receiving awards such as Youth Achievement Award and Dynamic Youth Award. Young people involved will also be invited to take part in community meetings to have their say. We would like involvement from every area in the Scottish Borders (Peebles, Hawick, Galashiels, Earlston, Lauder, Duns, Kelso, Jedburgh and Eyemouth) so that we can hear the voice of all young people across the region.
