St Ninian's Stay and Play Family Support Group
Charity registered in Scotland
We aim to support parents and their children under 5 years. In Mid Craigie many parents are unemployed resulting in low self esteem and self confidence. Juvenile crime is high. The local school, including the nursery department, has the highest exclusion rate in Dundee. We will provide activities for both children and parents designed to improve social wellbeing.
With guidance you will be expected to help set up various play activities throughout the session and be prepared to join in the variety of activities presented. Encouraging parents to enjoy fun at activities with their children will be important. You will be expected to listen carefully to any concerns which parents may express and pass this to the Group Leader. As part of a team you will participate and contribute to the review and planning session where the presentation of activities are discussed for the following week. All volunteers assist in setting up and clearing away the equipment and when required assist with the arrangements around lunch times. You will find us a happy group, always ready to take on board new ideas.
Equipment for the play room is stored in many areas and some of it is of medium weight. We require someone who is prepared to move such equipment to the appropriate place and put it away at the end of the session. Cleaning and maintenance of equipment would suit someone interested in basic DIY.
To assist in setting up attractive lunch tables and serving a simple lunch consisting of home made soup, rolls, meats, fruit, vegetables and drinks. Lunch takes into account the various ages of children attending and reflects the needs of babies and babies at the weaning stage. We offer families tasters of foods new to them and encouraging families to enjoy this opportunity would be part of your role. Helping to clear up the lunch area ready for play activities to resume, would complete this opportunity within a happy team.
