Current opportunities

We really value our dedicated and talented team of volunteers who all bring something different to helping preserve the historic ship HMS Unicorn. Opportunities include helping with visitor services, tour guide, archiving, painting, gardening, dressing up on pirates days, face painter, admin assistant, social media, bar, school groups…. There’s something for everyone so let us know what you can bring to the team. We have regular volunteer meetings and email updates and are open to the Saltire Awards. We have regular training and as a volunteer you can attend our live music and events free of charge. And, of course, the kettle is always on!

As a member of the HMS Unicorn Collections Team, you will provide an invaluable role in improving knowledge associated with the collections and fostering their accessibility. This role provides an opportunity to get experience within a museum environment and to learn about collections management, care, and storage. You will also get the chance to learn how to use Axiell Collections Management Systems. As part of this role, you will be provided with ongoing training opportunities and will develop an excellent attention to detail, good organisational and communication skills, and computer literacy. As a member of the HMS Unicorn volunteer team, you will also get the chance to meet other people and be invited to different group social events throughout the year. You can also become involved in other areas of the ship's life including maintenance, engagement events, and visitor services.
