BeFriends offers befriending support to disadvantaged local children and young people, developing their life skills and improving their well-being.

Current opportunities

BeFriends was established in 1981 and offers a befriending service to young people aged 5-18 in Dundee, who it is thought will benefit from the support and friendship of a volunteer befriender. The volunteer befriender and the young person will enjoy outings and share interests together, it is also hoped that the young person will feel confident enough to discuss any problems or issues they may have. If you feel you have something to offer, have time on your hands, looking to change careers, put something back into society, or are just looking for a new challenge, then why not try volunteering with BeFriends. IT'S FUN

Befriends Dundee offers a one-to-one befriending service that provides the friendship and support of trained, vetted and disclosure checked adult volunteers to local young people who have been referred as a result of experiencing difficulty within their lives. The project addresses the individual support needs of isolated and disadvantaged young people by providing activities and volunteer befrienders. Through this service, the volunteer and young person enjoy activities together once a week or once every two weeks. These outings offer the young person an opportunity to enjoy themselves and gain new experiences whilst allowing them a safe space to discuss any problems or difficulties they may be facing. We would like to extend our service to 18-25 year olds who may be experiencing difficulty in their lives or would like an opportunity for socialising.
