Our clients are pretty wonderful and incredibly special to us. Each has their own unique personality and reasons for attending our centre. Your role itself will be about supporting our clients achieve their outcomes. You will need to be a good communicator, (especially listening), and patient with it on some occasions. You will need a positive outlook, good at working in a team, innovate in your thinking, fun loving and care about the happiness of our clients.
Activities based in the Fiveways centre include, music and dancing, dominoes, bingo, cards, gardening, hangman, play your cards right, painting and craftwork, baking, needlework, knitting, boccia, reminiscing, digital storytelling. Out with the centre we visit V&A, the DCA, Verdant works, McManus Galleries, garden centres, local parks, days out to coastal towns or even to a local bistro/pub for a bite to eat. At Christmas there is the Christmas parties and the obligatory pantomime.
Our clients at the ‘Fiveways’ centre experience an inclusive, outcome focused social setting which allows them to live life to the fullest. The centre exists to support the client’s needs and as a volunteer you have a great opportunity to contribute to the warmth, laughter and special moments.
You will be involved in activities such as carpet bowls, arts & crafts, dominos, board games, jig saws, music and dancing, serving meals, tidying of the hall and assisting clients to and from transport. As a valued member of our team our client’s happiness will be a direct result of your contribution at the centre.
We will support you through training and supervision where you will be able to reflect and develop your skills. Overall you have the opportunity within our team to experience a real sense of self-worth, knowing you have had a positive impact on the day to day lives of our clients.
Dundee Age Concern is looking for Trustees to join its Board. We are a local not for profit charity with 70+ years history in Dundee.
Trustees are decision makers and play an enormously valuable role in helping Dundee Age Concern to improve the lives of older people within the community. If you share our vision and would like to make a difference to the lives of older people, we would love to hear from you.
We hold Board Meetings up to 8-10 times a year - normally in the Dundee Age Concern Centre but currently online via ZOOM.
This is a voluntary position, non-remunerated but out of pocket expenses paid.
Dundee Age Concern is committed to equality & diversity throughout our organisation. A PVG check will be needed for this role.
