Current opportunities

Ward volunteers are welcome companions to patients; listening and talking with them as well as getting involved in activities in and around the ward. Core Duties include Ø To listen to and talk with patients Ø To read newspapers / books/ letters to patients Ø To take patients out of ward e.g. for a coffee Ø To help ward staff with provision of refreshments Ø To help patients complete menus Ø To provide companionship to patients who may have few visitors Ø Assist visitors to the ward with infection control procedures. Our volunteer meeter and greeters help create a friendly, welcoming and helpful environment within the outpatient department. Help create a friendly, welcoming and helpful environment. To offer directional advice and practical assistance as required by patients and visitors in collaboration with staff. They will provide clear information to visitors and escort people to their destination as needed. Core Duties 1. To display a helpful, friendly and courteous attitude to patients, visitors, staff and colleagues. 2. To act as a contact point welcoming people into the hospital entrance. 3. To provide clear and accurate directional information to help people find their destination. 4. To escort people to their destination as appropriate. 5. To provide information on all local amenities such as toilets, public transport etc. 6. To attend a period of induction training. 7. To attend regular training sessions as required 8. To accompany frail or confused patients to the XRAY department and remain in the waiting area with them to provide reassurance. They will provide clear information to visitors and escort people to their destination as needed.

To help look after the small garden at the Macmillan Centre and to lead gardening activities for people attending the Centre. Core duties include: - to carry out light gardening jobs to maintain the garden - to liaise with staff regarding small garden projects - to identify small gardening tasks which patients could take part in and to organise and lead these - to wear an ID badge at all times while on duty - respecting confidentiality, maintaining the persons dignity and comply with the NHS Tayside Confidentiality Policies - you comply with NHS Tayside volunteering policies and guidelines - to be aware of and comply with NHS Tayside policies relevant to the role eg. Health & Safety, Infection Prevention Control, Social Media etc. - to feed back any concerns regarding the wellbeing of patients to nursing staff in the first instance - to attend mandatory training as required These are the primary core duties of a Garden Volunteer, however certain activities can be changed or amended to suit requirements, under the supervision of the Senior Charge Nurse or Voluntary Services Team.

The Volunteer Hairdresser will provide a hairdressing service for Day Services patients in the Macmillan unit who have been assessed as someone who would require and are appropriate for this service by the Multi Disciplinary Team/ Complementary Therapy Co-ordinator . Bases are Arbroath (Tuesday), Whitehills (Wednesday) or Stracathro (Thursday) Core Duties include: • To provide a one-to-one service to patients. • To liaise with nursing staff about referrals. • To complete documentation as required. • Volunteer must be qualified Hairdresser or under supervision of a qualified hairdresser • To wear an ID badge at all times while on duty. • Respecting confidentiality, maintaining the persons dignity and comply with the NHS Tayside Confidentiality Policies. • To comply with NHS Tayside volunteering policies and guidelines. • To be aware of and comply with NHS Tayside policies relevant to the role eg Health & Safety, Infection Prevention Control, Social Media etc. • To feed back any concerns regarding the wellbeing of patients to nursing staff in the first instance. • To attend mandatory training as required.
