RVS: Royal Voluntary Service (Grampian Services)

Charity registered in Scotland SC038924

Every day Royal Voluntary Service helps thousands of older people to live the life they want. We provide practical services in homes, in hospitals and in communities all across the country so people can be independent and active. Royal Voluntary Service is one of the largest voluntary organisations and much of our work is supporting older people. We provide practical solutions to the everyday problems of loneliness and isolation.

Current opportunities

Home from Hospital volunteers transform the lives of older people by supporting and empowering them to live the life they want and stay connected to their communities after a stay in hospital. From on the ward to back at home, even everyday tasks can seem a challenge when recovering. You’ll make a real difference to the older people you support by providing a helping hand while they get back on their feet; whether it’s visiting on ward, providing a welcome home, company to the shops or collecting a prescription. Your role will involve elements of lone working and building a relationship with those you visit, which is hugely rewarding for both you and the older people. Your role will include working with an older person to identify what would improve their life and then enabling them to take positive steps to connect to their community and reduce their isolation. Flexible times available during Monday to Friday morning or afternoon. All help makes a real difference and is greatly appreciated. For more information please contact us via email: aberdeenhub@royalvoluntaryservice.org.uk or tel 01224 937110.

Do you love driving, meeting people and have a genuine interest in helping older people? Then this role is for you. Our Community Transport volunteers provide much needed transport for older people to help them attend appointments and social activities. Volunteer drivers provide friendly social contact and help them to maintain their independence. You can also help with shopping needs either with Assisted Shopping or Shop and Drop. Your role will involve elements of lone working and building a relationship with those you transport, which is hugely rewarding for both you and the older people. You may take an older person to a regular appointment or respond to ad-hoc requests for transport. Drivers use their own vehicles to provide a friendly journey and support the older person to and from their home and destination. Community Transport volunteers are so much more than taxi drivers! Flexible times available during Monday to Friday morning or afternoon. All help makes a real difference and is greatly appreciated.
