We all need to stay at home to protect ourselves and others. However, those who are well and not at risk can provide essential support for their family, friends and neighbours who cannot leave the house.

To support older people to remain independent at home for as long as they choose to do so, by providing a vital grocery & delivery service, as well as completing household tasks within the home via our Extra Service and also providing an outreach library service.

We offer the following volunteering roles - drivers, helpers on our delivery vans and shoppers, as well as volunteers with our Extra Service and library service.

Current opportunities

You would choose and deliver a selection of library books in your local library on behalf of someone who is no longer able to get there themselves. At least one visit per month would be expected, or perhaps two. Visits would be arranged between you and your matched customer to suit your availability. Each visit would be fairly short – time enough to have a chat and perhaps a cup of tea as you do the changeover of books.

We help people aged 65 and over to maintain their independence. The Extra Service Volunteer would use their practical skills to help customers with household tasks they are finding difficult with advancing years. The tasks we can do are as varied as running a household suggests, such as: Cleaning the inside of windows Changing curtains Turning a mattress Changing duvet covers Cleaning a fridge Defrosting a freezer Cleaning out cupboards Rearranging moveable furniture

This job will also involve helping to check shopping against customers’ shopping lists. You would work in either Asda or Morrisons in Livingston with other Shoppers, doing shopping for our customers. You could be shopping for 4 or 5 customers each day picking shopping and loading into customers’ shopping boxes

You will assist the driver with shopping deliveries and collection of payment for the shopping. Our customers live throughout West Lothian. As helper, you would be responsible for cash handling in particular.
