Obtain information from the VSM regarding patient’s name, address and any accompanying passengers including relevant details about the person’s condition or directions.
Transporting the patient(s) to the required destination at the agreed time.
Warmly greeting the patient, introducing yourself and any other patients who may be travelling in your car, making them feel welcome and comfortable.
Before driving off, ensure that the patient is comfortable and secure in the car then proceed to your destination at a speed to give your passenger the maximum comfort and confidence.
To report any matter of concern to the VSM.
To maintain confidentiality regarding information relating to patients and staff.
Maintaining enclosed garden areas within St John’s Hospital.
Social and diversional activities to help patients have a more positive experience whilst in hospital e.g. games, reading, chatting
Supporting the preparation and assisting of refreshments and at mealtimes
Physical activities – accompanying patients for walks with the consent of nurse in charge - Competencies – Assessed by Physio or Occupational Therapist
Assisting Occupational Therapists if required in rehabilitation activities
Alerting nursing staff if you are concerned about the patient
Never feel too busy to chat with patients or to join in patient activities
Respect privacy when staff are dealing with a patient
Any concerns re your volunteering role please speak to staff on the ward.
If you cannot attend for volunteering please let the ward know as soon as possible
Please advise the ward and the Voluntary Services Manager if you are no longer able to continue in your volunteer role.
