To improve the health and wellbeing of the population of Greater Shotts area.Involve local people in defining, supporting, managing + using existing services to improve their health. Establish a food co-op, breakfast clubs, Health and leisure initiatves. Creation of Healthy Living
Centre and eight information points - centre to include - Food co-op, cyber/healthy eating cafe, smoking cessation, drugs + alcohol counselling, Family Planning

Current opportunities

Volunteers will be required to serve the general public, be willing to learn basic shop-keeping skills e.g. use a till, scales etc. Basic stock control e.g. checking quality of goods for sale, ordering new stock from suppliers. Volunteers will be helping to provide low cost, high quality foodstuffs in their community allowing access to a healthier diet. Anyone who has experience of working in a shop is most welcome but all voluntary contributions will be welcomed. The food co-op will have access to training and visits to other food co-ops. in North Lanarkshire.

Volunteers required to assist the general public with any problems or queries regarding using computer and internet. Volunters would preferably have some knowledge of using a PC and the internat but not essential as training could be provided

SKILLS NEEDED *Do you have a mature and responsible outlook? *Are you flexible and adaptable? *Are you able to work on your own initiative? *Are you able to work as a team? *Do you have a sense of humoour? *Are you able to build up relationships with vulnerable adults? *Have you at least 3 hours of spare time per week? In return you will gain skills in *Training on role *Increase in confidence and self esteem *Valuable experience recognised and valued by employers in local Government, Community, Voluntary Organisations and Social Care *After 6 months volunteering receive an employer / college reference on request. *On going training as required *Make new friends *Training on role.

The volunteer shall assist in preparing and delivering structured health improvement and diversionary workshops to meet the needs of the young people who attend the drop in. The volunteer will be expected to engage with the young people and offer guidance and support where appropriate to increase the social and personal development of the young people. Volunteer should be from the Shotts/Wishaw area.
