Aberdeenshire Council Sheltered Housing, are recruiting volunteers, following the pandemic over the last two years, without activities and its effects of loneliness and isolation; It has never been more important to support our older people's communities. We have Sheltered Housing Complexes spread all over the shire. Our tenants love all things activities, and support for many of these is crucial, from calling out the Bingo, getting the refreshments ready, to helping out with arranging a soup and sweet day, or helping to organise a day out with the tenants, a music event, enabling and supporting them to have meaningful events and activities is, life enhancing and a massive boost to wellness, both physical and mental. The volunteer is valued and forms lasting friendships with tenants, which is why being a volunteer is so hugely rewarding.
The volunteer person, would assist with setting up activities and events, participating when required to do so by the sheltered housing tenants. Supporting tenants as required, sometimes just being there, having a cup of tea and helping to wash up afterwards is all that's needed. In any event the volunteer is hugely valued and appreciated by all. Training is provided, and you will be well supported in your role.
Aberdeenshire Council Sheltered Housing requires gardener / handyperson, to work alongside tenants, doing the bits of gardening some of our tenants no longer can easily do; just popping into a scheme on a day previously arranged with staff or tenants, having a chat with them, and deciding how best to assist them over a cup of tea and a chat. This is an informal role and means such a lot to the tenants who are looking for that level of support, the benefits to overall wellbeing from interacting with tenants in their garden are second to none, and you as a volunteer you will have the enormous satisfaction and personal fulfilment in making a difference to our older generations, Some of the duties could be, planting bulbs, trees, shrubs, and general gardening duties such as weeding and simple routine gardening tasks. cleaning bird tables, bird feeders.
