Aberdeen Arts Centre is an inclusive, community focused arts venue. We provide facilities and opportunities for groups and individuals of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to learn about and engage in the performing arts. The venue includes a 350-seat auditorium, rehearsal and workshop space, a café bar and a gallery space. A small core staff team run the venue with vital assistance from over 80 volunteers.

From new writing, to amateur dramatics to community cast collaboratives, youth theatre, musicals, festivals and so much more; there is so much to be involved…why miss out? ACT runs as a charitable organisation with a small core staff supplemented with an incomparable volunteer base of over 80 individuals of all ages. We truly are an intergenerational organisation, with performing arts tuition at the heart of what we do. Aberdeen Arts Centre operates a snack/cafe bar which is at the heart of all the Centres activities. All of the visitors, drama groups and musicians visit the cafe, as well as visiting companies, exhibitors and guests. This is a busy and exciting area of the Arts Centre. Volunteers are required to assist in the cafe bar which operates before and during evening performances, and as and when required. Volunteers serve non-alcoholic refreshments, clear tables, wash dishes and deal with money. The cafe bar is also often the venue for small musical concerts during special promotional events. The cafe bar is a busy and exciting area of the centre. Volunteers are provided with good support, given a tour of the building and can attend any shows for free. The Centre is a recipient of the Queens Award for Voluntary Service and Volunteer Friendly Awards in recognition of the great support it provides to volunteers and the community. With our ethos of “everyone is entitled to an enriching cultural life, regardless of age or social circumstance”, we are a truly intergenerational organisation, with performing arts tuition at the heart of what we do. More than 100,000 individuals pass through our doors each year, with over 40 professional, amateur and youth companies who rely on us. Our backbone is our strong, dedicated volunteer base and we have a range of volunteer opportunities that people can get involved in including café volunteers, bar volunteers, front of house assistants, box office and reception support.
