The Machan Trust are seeking volunteers to work alongside a Children's Worker to support and engage primary school children in their schools while they attend activity groups during their lunch time.
Volunteers will support the Children's Worker to deliver lunch time activity groups to children in primary schools across the Larkhall area. Children within the primary schools are given the opportunity to come to the group after they have eaten lunch to take part in a variety of activities and supported play. The volunteers will be asked to assist by chatting to the children and building relationships with them, while encouraging them to take part in activities.
The Machan Trust delivers breakfast clubs in four primary schools within the Larkhall area, providing over 500 breakfasts per week on average. We would be unable to provide this service without our fantastic team of committed volunteers, which we are always looking to expand. Volunteers provide support to the lead worker by helping with setting up and clearing up, making toast, pouring cereal and drinks, washing and drying dishes, engaging the children in a variety of enjoyable activities, and providing homework support. Breakfast clubs have been shown to benefit children by providing the opportunity to eat a healthy breakfast, develop social skills, play with friends, and prepare for their day at school. The support of breakfast club volunteers is vital in helping the Machan Trust to fulfil its vision of improving the life chances of children and young people in Larkhall and the surrounding areas,
