Using your own car or a Red Cross vehicle, you will offer door-to-door assistance for those in need, providing freedom of travel for those with mobility problems, helping people get to medical appointments, carryout everyday essentials like shopping, or even just get out and socialise. Typically as a Transport and Escort Volunteer, we ask you to act as an escort who, if necessary, will stay with a client throughout their journey.
British Red Cross volunteers are fully trained in advanced first aid and are ready to help at any occasion across the UK, from a community event to a stadium-sized rock concert. When accidents happen or illnesses take hold, their knowledge can be vital in saving lives or preventing further injury. As a volunteer you will be trained to provide first aid, occasionally life saving, services to those who need help at public events both in Orkney and across Northern Scotland and to support the ambulance service in accordance with current first aid practice. As you develop your skills you will have access to our diverse learning and development pathways and other exciting internal opportunities such as becoming a first aid instructor or joining our emergency response team.

Offering a trained volunteer escort and conveying passengers safely from their starting point to their final destination either in BRC vehicles or in the driver's own vehicle.
Accompanying someone on a public transport journey, enabling clients to keep appointments safely and efficiently.
As an Emergency Response volunteer, you may be providing much needed practical and emotional support to individuals as part of a team, in support of category 1 and 2 responders and other agencies following an emergency or major incident.
In addition, you could provide "behind the scenes" support to the response.
