Current opportunities

Helm works with around 200 young people every year who go into full-time employment, work experience placements or start a range of courses in Further Education Colleges. The training focuses predominantly on supporting young people who are not in education, employment or training and aims to be flexible and responsive to their needs. Your role as Group Assistant would be: To assist the Instructor in delivering SQA Communication, ICT, Numeracy, Problem Solving & ASDAN modules to groups of 8-10 people; To be involved in assisting with the delivery of training in life skills & social skills; To support with delivery of employability skills in preparation for the workplace i.e writing letters & CVs & applying for jobs; To accompany groups on any social outings or employability events, i.e. employer visits; To be a role model & share personal knowledge & experience of work with trainees; Help to mentor those trainees who require additional support. You would be expected to attend any in house training/meetings relevant to the volunteer role.

We need someone to teach basic food hygiene. To facilitate and instruct the students to prepare and serve a limited lunchtime menu within our training enviroment.

Helm is a charity based in Dundee which provides a creative, supportive learning service for people, in particular young people, who may face difficult barriers to developing sustainable careers. We encourage young people to strive for positive results and over 70% reach positive destinations. We want to start a new sewing group and would like a volunteer from our community to come in to teach these skills to interested students Helm are currently looking for an individual who is comfortable with young people from the age of 15-16 who are interested in learning how to sew, knit or crochet, or who already enjoy these skills and would like to work alongside someone who can support and encourage their interest. Ideally you would be available regularly for an hour or two a week on a Thursday morning. All craft materials will be supplied. You will be based at our centre in Dundee (just off the Seagate near the bus station) and will work alongside our experienced staff team.

If you have a keen eye for detail, well organised, thorough, and able to work on your own initiative then we would be keen to speak with you. As a Helm Research Volunteer you will be an important part of our fundraising activities in our area. You will help us identify potential supporters from communities such as Groups, Clubs & Associations, and Corporate organisations. What activities will you be involved in? Researching potential charity partners using a wide range of channels; Contacting/visiting potential partners with support of the fundraising managers; Preparing proposals and/or pitches; Involvement in the delivery of pitches and proposals; Supporting existing partners with fundraising products; Attending team meetings; Administration relating to the above activities; New innovative ways of working with the corporate sector such as setting up a Business hub.
