PKAVS Young Carers

PKAVS Carers Services support unpaid Carers of all ages, living in Perth & Kinross and caring for family, partners, friends or neighbours. Using a holistic approach in working with people who have caring responsibilities we help carers retain a life outside of caring and develop skills or interests to enhance their own lives.

Current opportunities

We are looking for someone who can spare a few hours to transport our young carers to and from respite groups. These groups take place in Perth, Crieff and Blairgowrie. This would involve collecting young carers from their home address across Perth and Kinross and driving them to the designated respite group, and returning them home afterwards.

Working with children and young people, aged between 5 and 15 years old. The respite groups are great fun for both the children and volunteers. We encourage volunteers to take part in all activities and their enthusiasm and attitude impacts greatly on our children and young people. Planned activities take place each week at group such as baking, sports and games. The activities vary depending upon the time of year and any current events or celebrations. We encourage volunteers to share their ideas and skills with us and are delighted for you to have input into the planning and running of activities. We are always thrilled to take on new volunteer and we will support you in your role.

Working with children and young people, aged between 5 and 15 years old. Young carers can sometimes struggle in group situations and prefer one to one activities. We are looking for volunteers to meet young carers to offer one to one respite. This will be directed by the young carer and can be in many forms, for example visiting the cinema, a ceramic centre, a trip to the park. This will allow the young carer to have respite from their caring role and allow them to enjoy an activity they may not otherwise be able to access due to their circumstances.

Early in 2019 PKAVS were commissioned to develop a service for Young Carers who require extra Educational Support to help with achievement and engagement within schools. The EASyc (Education Attainment Service for young carers) looks to develop person centred support for those Young Carers referred in. The service is open to all Young Carers 5-18 years old who are currently enrolled in school that meet the criteria. We are looking to gather a highly motivated team of people to volunteer in our homework clubs. This would suit those who have an interest in education and engaging young people i.e. retired teachers, current teachers looking to support their CPD, 6th year students looking to volunteer as part of DoE or just looking for some experience volunteering as part of employment or Further Education applications.
