Current opportunities

Volunteers provide quality one to one time on a regular basis and are there to listen, to talk and support adults and parents who are part of Hopscotch, Space4U and Tayside Council on Alcohol services. Volunteers role as a befriender/parent buddy is to help parents and adults to access leisure and recreational opportunities, focus on building the adults confidence and resilience as well as reducing their isolation, encouraging them to get more involved in the local community and to build up a happy family life. Befriending activities vary according to the service user needs. For example, some of the service users need support to go to an activity in the community and some service users need someone to talk to one to one. Volunteers provide vital support to adults and parents which helps the service users to build up confidence, meet new people and access local activities which can also have a positive impact on the family. Volunteers will support parents to sustain new home routines, providing both practical and emotional support at key times in the family home. They will also support the whole family to engage in recreational and social activities together, helping them to access local leisure services and activities in their local area. Please note that Barnardo’s does partnership working with Tayside Council on Alcohol (TCA) in relation to volunteering. All volunteers will go through a joint induction process and be open up to both organisations allowing options for befriender opportunities-great opportunity if you are looking at building up experience with children and young people. • Minimum age 18 • Minimum of 2 hours per week (Monday-Sunday, can be during the day, after school, evenings, weekends) • Preferably access to own vehicle • Roles cover Perth and Kinross but the matching process would take into account locality and vehicle access. • Meetings with parents will also be flexible so to provide support at key times (i.e. help establishing routines around bedtime or help with getting up for school) • 6-12 month commitment
