Home-Start Perth

Charity registered in Scotland SC000986

Families with children under five years old can find life difficult and stressful at times. Home-Start Perth was set up to help such families. Trained volunteers visit families in their own homes, usually on a weekly basis, and offer non-judgemental practical and emotional support, helping to build the family's confidence and ability to cope. Our volunteers come from all walks of life and are normally parents themselves. Support is available to any parent or carer with at least one child under 5 years of age. Homestart Perth also runs family groups in Blairgowrie and Coupar Angus for children up to the age of 3 and Infant Massage classes to new parents.

Home-Start Perth has over 30 active volunteers who are fully trained and supported to offer regular support, friendship and practical help to prevent family crisis and breakdown. We are looking for trustees from a range of backgrounds to enhance the resilience and knowledge available in ensuring proper management and governance of this vital service to the families of Perth and Kinross.

All of Home-Start Perth's volunteers provide emotional as well as practical support to families. Volunteers visit families in their own homes, normally for a couple of hours each week, and may be a listening ear one week and an extra pair of hands the next. Support for the family will last as long as the family and Home-Start feel it is required. Where possible, Home-Start tries to match the skills and experience of the volunteer to the needs of the family. You may be helping a mum with post-natal depression or with a child with special needs or supporting a family with multiple pre-school age children. All our families are unique.
