The Phoenix is a Community Hub in Dumbarton West, it was set up in 2018 by Rock Community Church. The Rock is a vibrant church community serving Dumbarton and the surrounding area. The Phoenix is designed to primarily serve the people of Dumbarton West, namely the residents of Castlehill, Westcliff, and Brucehill. The Phoenix includes a community cafe and a wide and varied activities programme including youth work, toddler provision, adult learning, intergenerational events, art classes, fitness classes, wellbeing programme and volunteer opportunities.


Current opportunities

Family activities can vary from crafts, and games to cooking classes. The idea is to give opportunities for families to spend some quality time and have fun at the same time! Role Description Setting/clearing up sessions, ensuring that all the equipment is clean and safe to use. Meeting and greeting families. Helping to develop our activity programme. Providing support for children and families. Providing refreshments to attendees. Overseeing activities such as sports or crafts.

We provide several youth groups as well as holiday programmes. These include our Junior and Senior Youth clubs, a Youth Action Group and a Youth leadership programme. Please check/ask what clubs are currently running. Role Description Supporting and developing the Youth work programmes and activities. Setting/clearing up sessions, ensuring that all the equipment is clean and safe to use. Meeting and greeting young people. Providing support to young people. Providing refreshments Overseeing activities such as sports or crafts. The ability to relate to and engage with young people. A commitment to equal opportunities and a non-judgmental approach. Effective listening and communication skills. Reliability and punctuality.

Roles within the Café can vary from taking orders and serving customers to helping with food preparation. Setting/clearing up the tables in the cafe, ensuring that all the furniture is clean. Preparing and serving food. Meeting and greeting people. Taking orders. Making hot drinks. Understanding and applying basic health and hygiene. You could be working alongside the maintenance team to help keep our building open and safe for the public or help in the garden. Role Description Jobs might include planting, weeding, and keeping the garden clean and tidy so it is safe for public use. You might even get to work alongside our Gardening SQA to improve the space. Ensuring the building is safe for the team and the general public. Helping with general maintenance such as changing light bulbs and painting and small repairs. Providing support, giving relevant, input and ideas.
