Shopmobility is a service that helps all people who consider themselves to have mobility problems (whether through disability, illness or injury) to continue to get around city and town centres independently, with freedom, confidence and dignity.
We have a vacancy for someone with a sunny disposition to meet and greet people as they arrive, note their details, direct them to their allotted space and deliver any mobility equipment they require to their car, and to log details on a computer. We would also like someone who enjoys DIY, has a practical background and can give a few hours per week to help us maintain our mobility equipment. We are looking for someone to ensure that the mobility equipment is clean and in good order for our customers' safety and comfort. This is an extremely important role, as you never get a second chance to make a first impression.
This is your chance to provide practical help to people with limited mobility and be part of a vibrant service making a real difference to West Dunbartonshire. To the right volunteers we would offer training and support in the service that we provide and the reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses.
To support, for an agreed period of time, a blind or partially sighted person, supporting safe negotiation of the environment, building confidence and developing links to the local community, whilst maintaining dignity and promoting independence.
What does the role involve?
Undertake training to become a Sighted Guide volunteer
Provide sighted guide support for set activities to meet the goals of the blind or partially sighted person
Develop a good relationship with a blind or partially sighted person, their friends and family and other volunteers that promotes independence and knowledge sharing
Establish and adhere to appropriate social contact and personal boundaries
Support referral or access to local services and facilities for blind and partially sighted people
Demonstrate the sighted guiding technique to friends, colleagues and people who are blind or partially sighted
Provide feedback on progress and any issues that arise to the Volunteer Coordinator
Provide the Sighted Guide role at agreed times/location
We are looking for someone who can organise a range of fundraising events such as bag packing events, helping on stalls and other fundraising activities. We would like our fundraising volunteer to think creatively of future fundraising events to support our organisation, we would like the volunteer to be able to keep accurate records of sales, counting any donations and following up all basic paperwork and money handling procedures as well as setting up and packing away at events. We would hope that our volunteers would have fun and a sense of satisfaction in taking part in fundraising events and collections.
