Over The Wall
Our Mission is to provide free of charge, life-changing camp experiences to children with serious health challenges and their families. Our Vision is to grow our organisation and services so that we can cater for every qualifying child and family member wishing to attend our Camps.
Over The Wall provides free of charge residential activity camps for children and teenagers living with serious health challenges. We offer them and their families a week of experiences that are memorable, fun, empowering, physically safe and medically sound and we need a superb group of volunteers to make the magic happen.
Current opportunities
Over The Wall is a charity that helps children, young people and their families, living in the UK, reach beyond the boundaries of their health challenges to discover a world of mischief, magic and new possibilities. We do this by providing free of charge, transformative activity camps throughout the UK. Our Health Challenge & Siblings Camps are magical places where campers take part in fun activities including Sports and Games, Drama, Arts and Crafts and Discovery. Campers will be divided into teams based on their age groups of 8-10, 11-13, 13-15 and 15-17 years of age. Camp could not happen without the generosity of nurses, doctors and paramedics giving up their time. It means we can offer ‘home away from home’ care which normally involves giving medications, nebulisers, overnight NG/PEG feeds and dressing changes etc. When you aren’t busy with that, you can join in with group for activities like, kayaking, fishing, climbing, arts & crafts or drama.. Camps this year will be taking place at the Strathallan School in Perth between 9th - 14th July 2023

Arts and Crafts, drama or sports? Join our activity team to run some fantastic sessions that have been planned by our activity team and will be taught to you so that you can confidently run them and help bring some fun and excitement to the sessions. Our Safeguarding Officers are an extremely important part of Camp as they act as ambassadors of our Safeguarding policy, helping to ensure the mutual protection of Campers/ Volunteers/Staff.
You will often be the first port of call for Volunteers concerned the Safeguarding Policy has been breached, that Campers or Volunteers are potentially the victims of neglect or abuse, or any other queries surrounding Safeguarding issues. Your role would be to support the person who has reported concerns to you & also inform OTW staff of their disclosure. Whilst you will not be responsible for contacting the appropriate authorities to investigate concerns, you will be vital in ensuring the correct channels are made aware of any Safeguarding breaches. Throughout Camp you will need to be vigilant & observant to ensure Safeguarding procedures are in place & being followed.
As with our ‘Team Mate’ volunteers you will also be allocated to a Camp team & complete the everyday Team Mate role. You will therefore be an essential part of implementing Therapeutic Recreation at Camp (see our website for more info.), helping to support/guide/inspire/empower our Campers to maximise their potential/increase confidence. Campers will be divided into teams based on their age groups of 8-10, 11-13, 13-15 & 15-17 years. You will build amazing 1-1 relationships with your team of Campers on a daily basis. In return, as a Volunteer you will:
•Participate in a unique,unforgettable experience
•Work for a brilliant cause with a reputable national organisation
•Meet fantastic new people & make friends
