A user led organisation for people with a disability or anyone who has a interest in disability issues. The ILA manages the direct payments support service which has three paid members of staff.

Do you wish to help disabled people live a full and independent life? We are a charity that provides free information and support to anyone on a social care support package, disabled or elderly who wants to manage their care in a way that suits them. We champion independent living and work with councils across Forth Valley as well as having links to similar campagning bodies across Scotland. As a user- led organisation we welcome disabled people, family members or anyone with an interest in social care. The Independent Living Association Forth Valley is looking for Trustees to join our dedicated Board to drive forward our free, independent information service for disabled people, parents and carers forward across the Falkirk, Stirling and Clackmannanshire. We are a user-led organisation which provides services to promote and support independent living and facilitates people to self-direct their own care packages. We liaise directly with local councils to engage with people who are looking to exercise informed choice and control over their social care support. We are totally independent and experts in Self Directed Support options and legal requirements. The Trustees are responsible for the strategic direction and governance of the organisation, whilst day to day running is delegated to our Self Directed Support Forth Valley service. We are seeking someone who can: - Be a champion for disabled people’s rights and life choices - Contribute actively to the Board and regularly attend meetings - Be involved in setting the future direction of our service. Trustees play an active role in overseeing the operation of our SDS Forth Valley service which provides the free information and support and has four full time staff memmbers. This service runs regular training sessions, creates information pamphlets and videos. We have run social gatherings prior to Covid and are looking to expend our network. We work alongside other charities in the locality to communicate our service and how it may help their members. Our Board meets 8-10 times a year including an AGM which is currently via Zoom although we expect to adopt a hybrid meeting system when conditions allow. This role would be of particular interest to those presently receiving a social care package, a current or past social care practitioner, a disabled person or anyone with an interest in the field. We are looking to expand the diversity of our Board and are interested in applicants from all backgrounds and experiences. No previous Board experience is necessary as full training will be provided.
