North Ayrshire Foodbank

we want to see more people helped out of crisis and fewer people needing foodbanks in the future. That’s why The Trussell Trust and local foodbanks are working together to develop new ways to help people out of crisis through programmes like More Than Food.

Current opportunities

The foodbank project has negotiated to collect at 6 of the 9 supermarkets in North Ayrshire. Volunteers can decide which collection event they would like to participate but will always be in teh towns of Largs, Kilbirine, Ardrossan, Saltcoats Stevenson, Irivine where supermarkets are located.

The Pantry is essentially a small shop with a membership. The team will be responsible for the safe operation of the Pantry including : cash handling, stock rotation, shelf packing, serving customers and signing up new members. Some of the work is IT based (laptop) to record members weekly shop visit as well as signing up new memberships. Other tasks are manual. It would be helpful if you were confident handling weekly subscriptions which can be paid either by cash or our card payer. The pantry will initially operate two days a week as a pilot and if successful extend on a planned basis with the whole team suitably advised.

South Ardrossan Larder is there to assist low income households to reduce their weekly spend on shopping, through it's members ability to access core food items for a weekly membership fee of £4.00. The items members can select are categorised as blue, red or free. It’s very simple, but best experienced by coming along to have a look; those already members are gaining £16.00 worth of goods. If free vegetables, a selection of meats, tinned items, household cleaning and toiletries along with freshly baked bread and cakes is of assistance to your household then come along. The South Ardrossan Larder is open Fridays 4pm until 6pm and Saturdays 10am until Noon.

To join our chef and support in the daily production of bread and cakes for distribution through the soon to be launched “Pantry” and other programmes of the Foodbank. Initially it will be Thursday to Saturday. Training and support will be provided as will all PPE to keep volunteers safe whilst we all deal with the COVID virus.
