Packing shifts are perhaps the most varied and consist of turning the cooked meals into individual portions and meal packs. Split over three shifts, the packing role involves tasks such as assembling the daily meal packs and ensuring they are ready for collection by our delivery volunteers, portioning meals for the following day, ensuring all allergens are being catered for and unloading and organising food deliveries from shops or supermarkets.
As a Cleaning Volunteer, you will help us maintain a clean and safe working and food production environment. Tasks can include cleaning in and around our packing hall, corridors, laundry room and toilets. You will receive full training, including shadowing another volunteer on your first shift(s). As part of the team, you will play an essential role in our service, providing free, healthy meals to those who need them.
Kitchen Assistant volunteers take part in basic cooking and food preparation (such as chopping and peeling!), with no prior kitchen experience needed. Our kitchen is a busy, social environment with a supportive team. If you want to develop your kitchen skills, we also offer a Kitchen Assistant Programme with Granton College. This is an opportunity to take an accredited course in ‘Introduction to Cookery and Hospitality Skills’, while gaining practical experience in our kitchen.
We are looking to expand our language bank to ensure we can make volunteering with us as accessible as possible! This could include joining a 1-hour induction call (online or in-person), or joining the volunteer for their shift. Our inductions and shifts are always led by a trained member of staff / volunteer. There is no weekly commitment required, and we can arrange inductions/shifts to suit yourself and the volunteer.
