Food Train - Falkirk

Charity registered in Scotland SC024843

Food Train Connects is a registered charity, voluntary organisation and social enterprise. Since 1995 Food Train Connects has been making daily life easier for older people, providing vital services to those who are no longer able to manage independently, through age, ill health, frailty or disability.

Food Train Connects makes hundreds of grocery deliveries every week, ensuring those most in need have access to fresh groceries. Teams of dedicated local volunteers across the regions also go that extra mile by helping with household jobs, delivering books through our library service and providing much needed friendly social contact and meals through our Meal Makers and befriending services.

Current opportunities

The Food Train is an award-winning charity which operates throughout Scotland, supporting older people in local communities to remain living in their own home, as independently as possible. We have a large number of older people in Falkirk experiencing loneliness and isolation who enjoy getting out and speaking to others from their local area. Our volunteer outing helpers assist our members in accessing trips to local cafes and places of interest. If you like chatting, meeting people and getting out and about then this could be the role for you! The role involves: - Collecting and returning home older people, either as a chaperone on a minibus operated by a local company or in your own vehicle if preferred. - Updating staff after outings and completing any monitoring/reviewing as required. - Informing staff of any concerns, accidents, or complaints - Option to attend volunteer meetings, training and social events throughout the year If you have some time to spare and want to help older people and meet new people then we would love to hear from you!

The Food Train operates throughout Scotland, supporting older people in local communities to remain living in their own home, as independently as possible. Our Falkirk branch is currently seeking volunteers to help Falkirk Food Train collect weekly shopping lists from our shopping service members! Every week we collect approx 50 shopping lists from our members over the telephone, which are typed up and printed out and used by our volunteer shoppers in-store (Asda or Morrisons). This service is a lifeline for many, and an important source of social contact; a Food Train phone call may be the only call that person receives that day. If you love to chat and have some spare time then please do get in touch!
