Everyone has the right to live life to the full. After a diagnosis of a chest or heart condition or a storke, many people experience fear and isolation adn struggle with the impact on their lives. Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland wont stand for that. The care and support we deliver every day ensures that everyone can live the life they want to.

Current opportunities

We currently have around 40 shops/community hubs across Scotland. Our shops and hubs help us raise funds so we can provide our services to the people who need us. Every one of our stores relies on a team of volunteers to help run it and support our staff. This is an opportunity to undertake a satisfying and rewarding role. As part of our team of volunteers, you will provide customer support, whilst working in a friendly atmosphere, providing an extremely useful and appreciated service to the Charity. The role includes: welcoming and assisting customers, customer service and sales service, stock control, sorting donations, hanging and ticketing stock and helping to keep the shop clean and tidy.

We are looking for community support volunteers who will provide time limited, goal oriented, person centred support to people with chest, heart and lung conditions to do what matters to them. We provide one to one and group support in the community (in their homes, in care homes, at community venues) and in hospital when we return to face to face hospital services. We provide remote support over the phone, by video and face to face, when covid restrictions allow. This can be anything from supporting someone to engage in physical activity, remotely or face to face (chair based exercises, strength and balance exercises and other condition-specific exercises), walking (one to one or in groups), shopping, crafts, hobbies, quizzes, music and other interests, conversation practice and communication support etc etc. The possibilities are endless – it depends entirely on what our service user would like support to achieve. We offer full training and support with a flexible approach to hours although it would be ideal to work between 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Out of pocket expenses are covered. This is a fabulous opportunity for someone looking to widen their horizons as the role is diverse and exciting, whilst also helping our service users to achieve what is important to them. We will require PVG disclosures for all our volunteers although this will be applied for and paid by Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland and we will require 2 references with your application.
