Perth & Kinross Duke of Edinburgh Assocation

Charity registered in Scotland SC021937

The Association was set up to advance the mental, physical and spiritual welfare of young people between the ages of 14 and 25 by promoting the scheme of Awards known as The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

In recent years, whilst maintaining the core function of the Association we have focused our activities on provision of support and experiential learning for targeted groups of young people with Additional Support Needs (ASN).

Current opportunities

The Expedition is a big part of the DofE experience, and we are looking for volunteers to support participants in these overnight adventures. We will provide all necessary training where required including national recognised outdoor qualifications. This is a great opportunity to support and encourage young people in achieving their goals and enjoying the local area we live in. For young people to complete their award they will look towards completing their expeditions volunteering support in this area gives them the support to complete their award. Nationally recognised qualifications would be offered to a volunteer.

We are looking for volunteer data administrators to support our groups upload evidence of their activities onto the eDofE system. A commitment of as little as an hour per month can provide much needed support to our Additional Support Needs participants who can find this challenging to do by themselves. Training would be provided on using the system.

We are very lucky to have a BOMA motorised off road wheelchair that allows all participants to undertake expeditions and other outdoor activities regardless of physical ability. This is incredibly important as it makes activities so much more accessible to all our young people. We also hire the BOMA out for a nominal fee to non-DofE users and we would like to promote its use further. We are looking for someone to manage and maintain the electric wheelchair, give demonstrations to users and where possible, join expeditions to offer technical support for users. Full training would be provided.

We are seeking drivers who can commit to weekly or occasional support driving our 17 seater minibus. MiDas minibus training will be provided where necessary. Weekly driving will include picking up our young people from across Perth & Kinross and taking them to Megginch Castle Estate or other outdoor venues. Adhoc drivers are also required for transportation to expedition locations further afield. A great opportunity to support young people in accessing their activities.
