Space@The Broomhouse Hub

Space @ The Broomhouse Hub is a Scottish Award nominated Charity organisation delivering diverse services supporting young people, families, older people, and carers – amongst others – engaging with local people more than 34,000 times last year.
More than 30 years on, with a new community hub building and still with local community groups and trustees at its core, Space continues working to improve the happiness, mood & mental well-being of our community members, enhancing physical health, and developing skills & job opportunities, whilst growing the confidence of the residents of our area and beyond in South West Edinburgh. We do this by nurturing, supporting, and inspiring people of all ages so that lives are fuller, the potential is fulfilled and community connections flourish.

Current opportunities

Space at Youth Befriending provides one-to-one befriending for children and young people aged 5-16 though supporting them to learn new skills and provide a social experience for children and young people who are experiencing difficulties in their lives. The befriender is there to encourage the young person to explore new activities and interests. Befriending can help to build the young person's confidence and self esteem, improve social skills and support them to access opportunities locally and throughout Edinburgh. We have been successfully delivering our Service in the South West area and now have secured funding to develop Youth Befriending city wide.

We are looking for people who are local to South West Edinburgh to join our board of trustees. Board Trustees have enabled Space to become the charity it is today. Space now delivers 17 projects, with 60+ staff and over 250 volunteers. We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated people from all backgrounds to join our Board of Trustees. Trustees help decide what services we deliver in The Broomhouse Hub. The board of trustees plays an integral part in developing the strategic direction of the organisation, ensuring its good governance, and overseeing the delivery of the organisation’s defined aims, values, mission, and objectives. Trustees fall into two categories: Local – people living within the South West Edinburgh locality, or within 3 miles of EH11 3RH. Business – people who have joined the board to offer specific skills and experience.

We are seeking enthusiastic and reliable volunteers to support our team to deliver respite youth groups to young carers in SW Edinburgh. Supporting the project worker to deliver the program to young people.
