Current opportunities

Space at Youth Befriending provides one-to-one befriending for children and young people aged 5-16 though supporting them to learn new skills and provide a social experience for children and young people who are experiencing difficulties in their lives due to parental drug and alcohol use. Through the befriending relationship the child / young person and the befriender may touch on topics such as increasing self-esteem; dealing with worries; respect for others.

As a volunteer receptionist you will be the first point of contact for the organisation. Main duties include Answering phone calls in a polite and friendly manner, directing enquiries to the correct member of the team. Welcoming visitors to The Broomhouse Hub. Answering email enquiries. Receive deliveries and distribute incoming mail. Maintain the reception area, ensuring it is clean & tidy. Assist with some basic administration tasks including printing/photocopying.

The role is primarily to support Space Kitchen Training Project trainees with their tasks and helping them have a positive experience while doing their traineeship. The Space enterprise delivers our community cafe and supplies food and drink for outside catering deliveries through the city. In addition, we are developing a pizza delivery business. Food Hygeine qualification is required (can be completed within the role) and relevant experience in a kitchen role is essential.

We are looking for people who are local to South West Edinburgh to join our board of trustees. Trustees play an integral part in shaping what we do at Space and ensuring we can continue to offer much needed services to the community in South West Edinburgh. Our Trustees meet every 2 months for a full board meeting lasting approx 2.5hrs Each Trustee also 'adopts' one of our projects, meeting with and providing support to the Project Manager and their staff team.
