RSPB Loch Lomond

Charity registered in Scotland SC037654

RSPB Scotland Loch Lomond is a stunningly beautiful nature reserve on the south-east shores of Loch Lomond. The reserve is made up of a mixture of woodlands, wetlands and grasslands and is home to a remarkable range of wildlife from the tiniest insect to majestic birds of prey.

The friendly site team includes a small number of staff, but most important to us are our volunteers who help with every aspect of the work we do. We offer a range of opportunities from getting your hands dirty with some practical conservation and maintenance work, to chatting with and enthusing our visitors about the amazing wildlife on site, or even getting involved with wildlife surveys and sharpening your skills.

The RSPB is the UK's largest nature conservation charity, inspiring everyone to give nature a home.

Current opportunities

If you like getting your hands dirty and love the great Scottish outdoors, whatever the weather, then this could be just the ticket! Every week, we organise practical work groups to carry out various habitat management and estate work around the RSPB site. We need your help to keep on top of essential reserve management and one-off tasks across a variety of beautiful habitats. Typical tasks include fencing repairs, scrub removal, vegetation management, invasive species removal, ditch clearing and lots more! All tasks are vital for conservation of important wildlife and habitats - you would be directly contributing to the protection of our countryside - and for retaining good access to, and around the site. An opportunity to help with habitat management, become part of a small, friendly team and learn about the running of the site, plus be involved with one of the RSPB's most exciting sites. You'll get a chance to enjoy the place, learn more about our plans and really get your hands dirty! You'll also pick up or be able to share skills and techniques. This is an excellent chance to make a genuine contribution to wildlife conservation. You will gain a valuable insight into the workings of Europe's largest conservation charity.

When you visit a new place, you always remember when you've met an amazing, helpful and friendly person. That's what we need you to be. We want people coming onto our reserve to be met with a smile You will actively provide a warm welcome for all visitors, thank members for their support and ensure that visitors needs are understood and met to the best of our ability. You will get to assist with guided walks, wildlife activities and inspire visitors about wildlife and the work we're doing at RSPB Scotland Loch Lomond. RSPB membership really is the lifeblood of the Society and underpins every single thing we do. It helps us fund nature conservation work here and across the UK - not only the ongoing land management of our reserves but also by creating and enhancing magnificent wild spaces for nature and people to enjoy. It is therefore important that you can inspire people about the work we do and warm them up to the idea of membership. This role will suit someone who loves to meet and talk to visitors and who would gain satisfaction from passing on their passion about wildlife. It's also a great opportunity to work at a unique location learning more about nature, birds and wildlife whilst making a real difference to the work of the RSPB.

RSPB Scotland Loch Lomond is an amazing place for wildlife, and we want to show it off to as many people as we can! It is also a vast and varied landscape, so many visitors to the National Park would prefer to be shown around by someone knowledgeable. That's where you come in! We're looking for enthusiastic and knowledgeable people who are willing to share their knowledge with others, be it about birds, plants, insects or history, and would be happy to guide others around the RSPB Loch Lomond site. A great opportunity to learn more about the reserve and spend more time in a beautiful location, plus the opportunity to meet many people of different ages, backgrounds and knowledge levels. Some walks will involve leading groups onto parts of the reserve not usually advertised to the public. The RSPB is an active and exciting conservation charity, the largest in Europe! We can help you gain skills and give you a valuable insight into our work.
