At Cancer Support UK our Cancer Coach Volunteer Facilitators provide life changing support for people who have completed their cancer treatment and are now looking for support in how to return to life after cancer.
Cancer Coach Volunteer Facilitators manage and facilitate telephone and online (Zoom) support groups once a week for 6 weeks either over the phone or online via Zoom. The groups take the participants through a series of discussion topics and conversations, enabling them to have the confidence and skills to start to move forward in their recovery. We cover various topics such as why we feel the way we do after cancer, managing worry and anxiety, challenging unhelpful thought patterns and goal setting.
As our support is delivered in a group setting, it also gives the important element of peer support, whereby participants can connect with other people who recognize and understand how they feel.
All our Volunteer Facilitators are given full training on the group structure and materials and this is an ideal opportunity for experienced communicators to enhance their skills while making a major difference in the lives of people recovering from cancer treatment..
Our volunteers are required to have experience in facilitation, coaching, training or counselling. We always welcome applications for people with a lived experience of cancer but we do ask that this experience was at least 2 years ago before considering volunteering.
