Contact the Elderly

Charity registered in Scotland SC039377

Contact the Elderly is a national charity dedicated to tackling loneliness and social isolation among older people through face to face contact.
Supported by a network of volunteers, the charity organises free monthly Sunday afternoon gatherings for small groups of older people, aged 75 and over who live alone, offering a regular and vital friendship link every month.

Current opportunities

Picking up an older person (guest) and accompanying them to a volunteer host’s home for an afternoon tea where they will enjoy the company of other people so easing social isolation and loneliness. Where possible you will pick up the same guest/s each month.

You will provide an afternoon tea in your own home for around 6-7 older people and 3 or 4 drivers. An afternoon of tea and cake and most importantly chatting to everyone to ease social isolation and loneliness. You will need easy access into your home, a downstairs toilet and a big teapot! If you can’t accommodate a group in your own home but you would still like to host then perhaps you know of a community centre, church hall etc where you could be the host.
