Volunteers are our lifeline in Cranhill, they are at the heart of everything we do. Put simply, we just could not keep going as a charity without them. They are a massive part of our community. Volunteers help support the running of our programmes delivered throughout Cranhill and the greater east end of Glasgow. Our development trust is in a unique position to offer placements and volunteering opportunities throughout our programme and piloting ideas in partnership with the local community. Our trust believes in working together with the community and through a person-centred approach to empower and inspire those living locally and those supporting Cranhill. We believe in the power of volunteering to change people’s lives and want to support people to take up chances to get involved as volunteers. This applies not only to our own projects but with other groups and organisations across the city. Would you like to help support our ESOL class programme for asylum seekers, refugees and migrants in the east end of Glasgow who do not speak English as a first language? Our volunteer ESOL tutors help support the running of weekly classes by providing one-to-one support for individuals during classes. We have ESOL programmes throughout the east end of Glasgow requiring support from Monday-Fridays. We at CDT are looking for volunteers for our Monday Social ESOL class [10:30am – 12:30pm], which will resume in August, and for a volunteer for our Friday beginner ESOL class [13:00pm – 15:00pm] Cranhill and surrounding areas in the East End of Glasgow is an area with a large number of individuals who do not have English as a first language, in order to break down barriers that this may cause Cranhill Development Trust work in partnership with Glasgow Kelvin College to provide ESOL classes for Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Migrants. Our volunteers are central to the service we provide and so experience would be beneficial however, not essential as training will be provided. Duties and Responsibilities •Working as part of a team is essential for this role, however being able to work with individuals on a one-to-one basis will also be required •To provide support in the delivery of ESOL classes at a range of levels •To help monitor progression and feedback any issues •Comply with confidentiality policies and procedures •Ensure Health and Safety is maintained •Comply with Equal Opportunities procedures This Role would suit you if •You are friendly and approachable •You have excellent communication skills •You are patient and understanding •You are looking to add practical skills to your CV OR •You have some free time and would like to help a local community organisation •You are looking to progress into paid employment within this sector Support and Training •Volunteers will be supported and provided training by our Community Development Worker as well as outside training providers •Volunteers will be supported by the Volunteer Coordinator •Other training opportunities are available – you will be informed of these when they become available •The Trust offers a variety of IT classes as well as employability support that volunteers are welcome to sign up to Closing date for applications is the 9th August.
