Alzheimer Scotland is developing their services in Cumnock and surrounding areas. We are keen to hear from anyone locally who enjoys engaging with people with all kinds of activities and/ or have a family or professional history with of care /dementia. This would be to support our Community Activities organiser.

Alzheimer Scotland are looking for qualified Counsellors to join our Counselling Services. Alzheimer Scotland is Scotland’s national dementia charity. Our aim is to make sure nobody faces dementia alone. We provide support and information to people with dementia, their carers and families, we campaign for the rights of people with dementia and fund vital dementia research. Alzheimer Scotland offers a free, confidential, person-centred counselling service which is in high demand. We offer short-term counselling to individuals impacted by dementia – including people living with a diagnosis, family, and carers. We are looking for qualified counsellors who are empathic, non-judgmental, proactive and can demonstrate an understanding of confidentiality and managing risk. You will demonstrate excellent communication skills and work well within a small team. An understanding of the experience of dementia is desirable, though support will be provided through CPD and supervision through Alzheimer Scotland. It is important that volunteer counsellors can work flexibly and are trained to work across a range of methods including face-to-face, video call and phone call. You must hold a recognised qualification (Diploma in Counselling, or equivalent) to deliver counselling services and be a registered member of COSCA or the BACP. We would ask for a commitment to provide person-centred counselling and deliver a minimum of two client hours per week. We are keen to hear from people who would be happy to lead therapeutic group activities. The types of therapeutic activities may include groups focussing on arts & crafts, football, golf, dance, film & TV, music & singing, photography, complimentary therapies, nature & gardening, sports, baking, reading, walking, local and/or family history or the sharing of other interests. Groups would be open to People with Dementia, Carers and/or wider community interested in maintaining good brain health. Role Description: This role will take a lead in delivering a therapeutic activity group as per interests listed above and support the people attending. The role may vary but is likely to include; •Offering person-centred support within a therapeutic group setting. •Communicating with people and staff within the therapeutic group setting. •Leading therapeutic activity groups and sharing ideas, skills and interests. •Recording attendance at the group. •Keeping staff updated about the group activity, those attending and any concerns or matters they feel are relevant. •Keeping up to date with Alzheimer Scotland news and our work across Scotland.
