Bethany Christian Trust
Bethany Christian Trust exists to relieve the suffering and meet the long-term needs of homeless and vulnerable people. Our vision is that through Christian love in action homelessness will be reduced and vulnerable people empowered to live independently within society. Bethany operates services that take people from homelessness through to managing their own tenancy and building positive friendships.
Retail volunteers are the backbone of our shops. A day can include sorting donations, operating the till or pricing stock- but every day, and every shop, is different! Each volunteer brings their own skills, experience and character to a role.
We are looking for a trustworthy and compassionate individual, willing to befriend a person who is socially isolated and may also struggle with addiction, homelessness and mental health issues.
To develop a companionship level relationship with a befriendee;
To accompany the befriendee to social activities and community groups;
To participate in an induction and on-going training as appropriate and adhere to all procedures and policies
Across all three sites, we are looking for volunteers to support the running of the group, and volunteers to befriend attendees on a 1-2-1 basis. The group has Christ at the centre, and group volunteers need to have a Christian faith with a church connection. For those engaging in 1-2-1 support, a strong Christian faith is required, ideally with lived experience of addiction or experience of working in this area. All volunteer should help attendees feel welcomed and comfortable, whilst also maintaining appropriate boundaries, e.g. chatting and contributing to the group discussion.
Our Men’s Group supports men who are having a rough time and could do with a helping hand. We usually have tea/coffee together and then do some fun activities. These could include: music, debates and discussions, games and organised trips. We are especially looking for people who could share a specific skill or talent they have, or lead an activity, games or discussion. For those who can’t commit longer term, there is the possibility of volunteering for a 4-week block or volunteering on a rota.
