Glasgow Tool Library aims to build a sustainable and inclusive alternative to consumerism through a resource library service. Our library works like a regular library, but instead of books, people can access an extensive selection of quality tools and equipment for their homes, gardens, hobbies and adventures. Glasgow Tool Library is looking for volunteers to help spread the word about our service. The role provides an opportunity for you to help grow our organisation and promote our charitable aims and objectives. The opportunity is open to those with prior experience in marketing or graphic design, as well as those who are interested to learn. Marketing Team’s core responsible are: > Helping to develop marketing strategies and campaigns, online and offline > Managing social media and newsletters > Developing creative ways to gain new members, donations or volunteers > Supporting with website, digital content and graphic design > Attending community and promotional events Joining GTL gives you the opportunity to shape its direction. Volunteers meet regularly for a catch up and to discuss projects and ideas. We hold annual volunteer assemblies and community build projects, giving you the opportunity to use your skills, or learn new ones, to help different groups or organisations in Glasgow. Commitment We look for people to commit to between 7-10 hours a month. All volunteers go through basic induction and training of the library to understand how it works and so they can cover shifts, which take place on. Monday 2pm – 5:30pm / 5pm – 8:30pm - non-public facing Wednesday 2pm – 5:30 / 5pm – 8:30pm - public facing The marketing team have more flexibility as some tasks do not need to take place on location. Glasgow Tool Library is a community-led charity that aims to radically change the way we access and manage resources. Our mission is to build a sustainable and inclusive alternative to consumerism that also promotes community wellbeing and empowerment. The service works like a regular library, but instead of books, people can access an extensive selection of tools and equipment for their homes, gardens, hobbies and adventures. Our Board of Trustees ensures that the organisation fulfills all its governance and legal requirements and operates efficiently. It maintains an overview of policy and strategic direction rather than being involved in day-to-day operations. We are now looking for an experienced Chairperson to oversee our governance and help Glasgow Tool Library take the next step in its future development towards promoting sharing over shopping. Key Responsibilities: > Lead the board of trustees in setting the charity's strategic direction and goals > Ensure that the charity's mission is fulfilled and that it operates in accordance with its values and principles > Oversee the charity's finances, including budgeting, fundraising, and financial reporting > Oversee the recruitment and management of staff (currently 2 part time, paid employees) and volunteers > Ensure that the charity complies with all legal and regulatory requirements > Act as an ambassador for Glasgow Tool Library, promoting our aims and values > Develop and maintain relationships with OSCR and key stakeholders, including government agencies, other charities and community groups > Monitor and evaluate the charity's performance and impact, and make recommendations for improvement Commitment The Board meets formally every two months – usually virtually, although aims for a minimum of one in-person strategy meeting each year – with email and WhatsApp correspondence between meetings. There are also ad-hoc meetings and decisions depending on the circumstances of the organisation. Board members are encouraged to support additional GTL activities and attend community events. We are now looking for an experienced Treasurer to work closely with the other Trustees to ensure that the charity's finances are managed effectively and efficiently and help ensure our mission is fulfilled. Key Responsibilities: > Oversee the financial management of the charity, including budgeting, financial reporting and cash flow management > Ensure that the charity's financial policies and procedures follow legal and regulatory requirements > Work with the board to develop and implement financial and fund-raising strategies that support the charity's mission and goals > Monitor the charity's financial performance and provide regular updates and recommendations to the board > Ensure that the charity's financial records are accurate and up to date > Support with annual reporting to OSCR > Provide guidance and support to the board on financial matters > Support with bookkeeping responsibilities and liaise with payroll provider (GCVS) Commitment The Board meets formally every two months – usually virtually, although aims for a minimum of one in-person strategy meeting each year – with email and WhatsApp correspondence between meetings.
