Sporting Memories Foundation Scotland (SCIO)

Charity registered in Scotland SC047268

Sporting Memories Foundation Scotland clubs are open to older sports fans who enjoy reminiscing about their experiences of watching or playing sport. The weekly clubs, facilitated by a trained volunteer, provide a friendly, inclusive and welcoming environment for anybody and are especially keen to welcome those who may feel isolated through illness.

Current opportunities

Sporting Memories Foundation Scotland are looking for someone passionate about sport who enjoys talking with older adults and will bring their enthusiasm into the club session. The ability to listen and encourage club members to get involved in the discussion is important as is being able to allow time for those who find it difficult to communicate to be able to take part. There is also some physical activity included as part of club sessions - indoor bowls (Boccia) or less strenuous exercises for those with mobility problems. The Session Supporter works alongside the Session Facilitator to enable the smooth running of the club session and will help to set up the venue for the club as well as welcoming members as they arrive. The clubs support older people who may have a physical disability and/or memory problems. Some of the members are isolated; they just enjoy popping in for a chat and being able to reminisce about their favorite sports. You will be part of a team of volunteers providing this service for a couple of hours on a weekly basis. Most importantly, the volunteers love a bit of banter and club sessions are about everyone having fun!
