We all need to stay at home to protect ourselves and others. However, those who are well and not at risk can provide essential support for their family, friends and neighbours who cannot leave the house.

Adult Learning - West Lothian Council

We provide learning opportunities designed around the needs of individuals in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in local venues. We offer a wide range of learning activities to encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to get into learning. This includes literacy and numeracy, digital/IT, family learning and parenting, lipreading and deaf awareness, ESOL and other short courses aiming to build confidence in essential areas of life.

Current opportunity

We have identified a number of groups that would benefit from volunteer support. We are looking for new volunteers to start with us next term. We are recruiting for both ESOL and Literacies volunteers who would then do some initial training together followed by a placement and further training in their chosen area of specialism. This gives an opportunity for to get some training and experience in working with a range of people with language, literacy and numeracy issues. If you would like to join a dedicated and well trained team of volunteers, now’s your chance. Volunteers will work with ESOL or Adult Literacies groups (up to 6 students) with a Tutor to support individual learning. Our current volunteers have completed training and worked in a group, will tell you that whilst working with students is rewarding and enjoyable. However, it is sometimes hard work and the time commitment is something that you have to be aware of before embarking on the training programme .
