Current opportunity

ARE YOU ENTHUSIASTIC, POSITIVE, HAVE AN OUTGOING PERSONALITY, A FABULOUS IMAGINATION AND CAN SPARE TWO HOURS PER WEEK BRIGHTENING UP A CHILD'S STAY IN HOSPITAL? IF YES, THEN WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU. Radio Lollipop, Glasgow are located in the Royal Hospital for Children in Govan and are now seeking permanent, playmaker volunteers to join our vibrant and diverse team. You will be required to volunteer for two hours, one night per week between 6pm and 8pm Monday to Thursday and commit to a minimum one year's service. Volunteers provide play, care, comfort and entertainment for all children in hospital. We believe in the healing power of play and believe that a happy child gets better quicker. Volunteers visit the wards and interact with the children by participating in arts and crafts, story- telling, playing games, competitions and taking requests for our Radio station. You must have an interest in playing with children of all ages and have an understanding of the benefits that constructive play can provide for a child and their siblings and have the ability to be a dependable team player. Volunteers need to be adaptable and sensitive to provide times of quiet play and times of more upbeat fun, with a wide range of age groups. All volunteers must be 18 years plus to join. Volunteers have a great deal of fun providing a valuable service to sick children and their families. The reward of seeing a quiet, withdrawn child return to a confident, happy child is immense and is something that our volunteers experience on a regular basis. Each volunteer brings their own unique strengths/imagination to children in hospital. All volunteers are trained to an exceptionally high standard and there is an opportunity after a probationary period to join the presenting team and co-host a show. Experience in working with children is preferred but not essential. Please note this post is subject to a full PVG check, occupational health clearance and suitable references being obtained.
