Voice Ability

Charity registered in Scotland SC050036

We want to deliver the best possible quality of support to people so they are heard, respected, safe and in control of their own life.

We believe everyone has a right to be heard and respected; have the same choice, control, and freedom as any other person; and be safe from violence, discrimination, harm or abuse.

Across Scotland, we support people who identify as having a disability, or their carers, to access Social Security Scotland benefits. We have paid advocates across the country, and are looking for volunteers to support the delivery of this service nationwide.

Current opportunity

Volunteer to make a difference with VoiceAbility Do you want to support people in your local community to feel empowered? Could you offer a few hours a week to help people access benefits and other services? VoiceAbility provides benefits advocacy across Scotland, supporting people to access Social Security Scotland benefits. This support is for disabled people, and people applying on behalf of family or people they care for. Our advocates explain the process, help people understand the paperwork, and support with applications, appeals and redeterminations. VoiceAbility also provides advocacy for unpaid carers of adults and children in Edinburgh, supporting people to know their rights and access services. How you can help You could support people by raising awareness in your local area, networking and supporting at events. These roles are ideal for people who already have a connection to their community, or would like to build one. Volunteers also support individuals directly, with general advocacy and admin tasks. If you have an interest or background in human rights, or health, care and wellbeing, this would be a good fit for you – but we care more about your values than your knowledge and experience. You’ll receive full training, support from the volunteer team and your local advocates, and paid expenses.
