Greenworks provide training to help people with learning disabilities prepare for employment. Greenworks runs a garden service where our trainees work alongside staff and volunteers learning practical garden skills, work ethics and social skills.


Current opportunity

Working alongside the Greenworks team, helping to complete outdoor gardening work in the local area. Whilst positively encouraging young people to learn new skills and growing their confidence and personal abilities.. Role Description: As a volunteer garden assistant, you would work to assist Greenworks supervisors and trainees. Helping the team complete their daily workload whilst encouraging the learning and development of trainees. Summer season is spent outdoors working safely, cutting grass and pathways, maintaining flower beds and weeding, and maintaining the equipment. During the winter months we work on woodwork project such as building bird houses and benches and restoring outdoor furniture. Gardening experience helps, but energy, commitment and a willingness to work positively with the team is more important. Ensure any incidents/accidents are reported immediate. Assist staff and trainees in the day-to-day activities of the gardening and woodwork Enterprise. Perform your volunteering role to the best of your ability, adhering to the Organisation’s Volunteers Follow the Organisation’s policies, procedures and standards. Maintain the confidential information of the Organisation and of its service users. Adhere to the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) Codes of Practice. Skills/Experience Required : Experience using Petrol Garden machinery (Lawnmowers, grass strimmer’s and hedge cutters) Understanding of risks and how to work safely A level of fitness and physical strength is required Desirable : Driving licence Woodwork, joinery or carpentry skills or knowledge Experience training others Personal skills : Good listening and communication skills. Patient and considerate. A non-judgemental and respectful approach. Understand the importance of and how to maintain healthy boundaries. Responsible and shows initiative.
