South East Scotland Scouts

Charity registered in Scotland SC010563

South East Scotland Scouts prepares young people with skills for life - helping them speak up and play their part. Each week we give over 6,000 young people aged 6 to 25 the skills they need for school, college, university, the job interview, the important speech, the tricky challenge, and the big dreams: the skills they need for life across South East Scotland.

By 2023 Scouts will have prepared more young people with skills for life, supported by amazing leaders delivering an inspiring programme. We will be growing, more inclusive, shaped by young people and making a bigger impact in our communities.
Our mission: Scouting actively engages and supports young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society
Our values: We act with care, respect, integrity, cooperation, exploring our own and others’ beliefs
Our goals: By delivering this plan we will achieve the following goals against our four objectives

Current opportunities

This vacancy is to provide exciting indoor and outdoor activities for girls and boys aged 6-8 years old. Scouts is both a young persons and adults experience – making friends, trying something new, doing something good for both your community and yourself and importantly making memories. It’s adventurous and rewarding. This Scouting adventure is only possible thanks to our superstar volunteers - ordinary people, like YOU, making an extraordinary difference to young people’s lives. The Assistant Beaver Leader role is one of the most popular choices as you can help with whatever the group is doing. To provide the best Scouting experience and continuity for our young people in Penicuik we need volunteers, in particular a Thursday Assistant Beaver Leader. Do you enjoy interacting with young people? Are you a team player with a positive, can-do attitude? Do you enjoy fun activities – from athletics to astronomy form photography to pioneering? Do you want to do more? Then this is right up your street. What can you do? You can play a pivotal role. Without a Beaver Colony, there would be nobody to feed new members into our Cub pack either. The existing Beavers may not be able to fully embrace the Beaver Scouts opportunity. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, demand for Scouting remains strong but we can only continue (and grow) with your help. This is your chance to make a difference and use your personal skills to help young people gain theirs as a Scout Maker. And volunteering goes both ways – you can benefit too. Like this sound of this? Beavers is packed full of amazing activities to engage and challenge Beaver Scouts of all abilities. From camps, water activities, nature walks, cooking, crafts, sport and so on. This is only possible thanks to our team of adult volunteers. We help volunteers get the most out of their experiences at Scouts by providing opportunities and support as part of team of like-minded individuals. Our approach focuses on what you want to get out of volunteering with Scouts, while respecting how much time you can offer. As Scouts is a well-known ‘brand’, this experience also looks great on any CV adding further employability skills.

If you enjoy camping, climbing, hiking, other outdoor adventurous activities and much much more then please join our group and start a new adventure as a Cub Leader. The Cub Scout Leader manages and leads the operation of the Cubs Section (8 – 10 1/2 yrs), in particular, the planning and delivery of the Balanced Programme, with the help of Assistant Section Leaders, Section Assistants and Young Leaders. The Cub Scout Leader will motivate, inspire and ensure that every young person has the opportunity to take part in fun, challenge and adventure. It’s so rewarding in so many ways. Do you have a passion for getting outside and trying new things? Could you encourage and lead young people aged 8 to 10.5 years old to discover and learn through excitement, teamwork and adventure? Working as part of a team of adult volunteers, a Cub Scout Leader assists in the planning and delivery of a safe and exciting programme of outdoor activities, community projects, games, challenges and the excitement of a few days away in a tent! Helping young people to grow, gain confidence and achieve awards is extremely rewarding but you will also gain new skills too through our award winning training scheme that covers everything from first aid to dealing with challenging behavior. You don’t need to have had previous experience of working alongside young people or have been a Scout yourself. Leaders need to be at least 18 years old, enthusiastic, and organised; we will teach you the rest and ensure that you get all the training, support and mentoring you need. We know our volunteers lead busy lives, so we’re all about flexibility. Whatever time and skills you have available, we can find a great role for you. 14th Midlothian Scouts offers fun, friendship and life changing adventure to young people across the Bonnyrigg area. This is only made possible by talented teams of local volunteers like you.
