The Ayrshire Hospice provides specialist palliative care and services to people affected by life-limiting illness across Ayrshire. Care is provided where there is no cure for the condition, but which improves the quality of each day for people who have a limited time to live. We help people to live as actively as they can to the end of their lives - however long that may be, where ever that may be. Care is provided by hospice staff in a number of places including people’s own homes, hospitals and care homes as well as in the hospice’s purpose built day care centre and in-patient unit.The hospice not only takes care of people’s physical needs but look after their emotional, spiritual and social needs too. Family members, close friends and carers are also supported both during a person’s illness and in bereavement.


Current opportunities

We are looking for a friendly, welcoming face to support the Ayrshire Hospice as part of our Reception Team. The ideal candidate would be creative and efficient, has a basic understanding of administration and is computer proficient with Microsoft Office. In particular, you will be able to relate well to a variety of people and have good verbal and written communication skills. You may not have had previous experience, however if you’re organised, enthusiastic and can use your initiative, we’d love you to apply. This is a great opportunity for someone wanting to get some varied experience in an office reception environment or to make use of their existing skills. We really appreciate the valuable contribution of volunteers and could not do what we do without you. Your line manager will work with you to develop a structured plan for what you will be doing while you’re volunteering with us, and we will provide you with as much support as possible to help you develop your skills. Your main duties will include: Dealing with enquiries, donations and deliveries, handling incoming calls both internal and external, welcoming visitors and dealing with their enquiries, assisting with general tasks that support the smooth running of the reception team. Currently, we are planning for a major redevelopment of our existing Hospice Site at 35-37 Racecourse Road, Ayr. From February 2022, for approximately 18 months, our reception volunteers will need to be based at East Ayrshire Community Hospital (EACH) in Cumnock. Volunteers play a huge part in the running of our stores and our retail chain could not function without the support they provide. There are vacancies in all of our stores - Ayr, Troon, Girvan, Kilwinning, Largs, Cumnock, Kilmarnock and our new store in Mauchline. Utilising your creativity and imagination you can assist with creating window and in store displays, selecting stock and turning it into something eye catching and tempting for our customers. An organiser’s dream volunteering role! Volunteering in the stockroom you can assist with sorting and organising donated stock and getting it ready for the shop floor. On the main shop floor, welcoming and assisting our customers and ensuring stock is regularly replenished, manning our tills and giving the best customer service possible.
