Diabetes UK (Shetland)

Charity registered in Scotland SC039136

A world where Diabetes can do no harm. Working to raise awareness, improve care and provide help, support and information for people with diabetes and their families across Scotland.

Current opportunity

We are looking for young people aged 18-24 with Type 1 Diabetes across Scotland to join our project and be trained in three different peer support skills – Buddying, providing group support, or moderating an online national chat. Peer Support is proven to be a great way to manage the complications and stress that can come from having a long term health condition. Through this project you will deliver and design the peer support and be given full training to become a peer supporter. You will be providing peer support for young people aged 13-24 with type 1 across Scotland. We will explore emotional and mental wellbeing, improving self-management, reducing isolation and meeting new people. This will be delivered online for now while local restrictions are in place. https://www.diabetes.org.uk/in_your_area/scotland/volunteering/youth-peer-support-groups
