We are Ayrshire’s leading cancer charity that provides practical help and emotional support to people in Ayrshire affected by cancer. Whether you’ve just been diagnosed with cancer, having treatment or caring for someone with cancer, we can help.

From providing transport and complementary therapies to offering expert information or to just being there to listen, we’re here for you.

Thank you for your interest in our Driver Volunteer Role. Ayrshire Cancer Support has operated since 1982, providing emotional support and practical help to those affected by cancer in Ayrshire. Our Volunteers make a vital contribution, by enabling the continuation of the support we offer. Kind, Caring, Compassionate? If you have a full driving licence, have a 4 or 5 door car, and have some time to spare, you can make a real difference by transporting cancer patients within Ayrshire to and from various hospitals, locally and in Greater Glasgow for treatment. Our service users are required to attend appointments at a wide range of times, generally between 9.00am and 5.00pm, Monday to Friday. Our Driver Volunteers…  Enjoy interacting with people.  Are supportive, non-judgemental and accepting of others.  Provide warmth, sensitivity and a willingness to listen.  Display patience and understanding.  Understand the importance of confidentiality and providing a regular commitment.  Contribute to the valuable services provided by Ayrshire Cancer Support We ask our Drivers to…  Undertake training relevant to the role – which includes shadowing a Driver Volunteer.  Adhere to the policies and procedures of ACS.  Safely transport patients from their homes to hospital and back at pre-arranged times. No formal patient transport experience or skills are required, however, a valid Driving Licence held for a minimum of 5 years is essential. You will be eligible to claim expenses for associated mileage whilst volunteering when using your own vehicle, in line with current HMRC allowances. Thank you for your interest in our Retail Volunteer Role. Ayrshire Cancer Support has operated since 1982, providing emotional support and practical help to those affected by cancer in Ayrshire. Our Volunteers make a vital contribution, by enabling the continuation of the support we offer. Kind, Caring, Compassionate? If you have some time to spare, you can make a real difference in our Ayr Shop and we’d really love to hear from you. We have opportunities available between 9.30am and 4.30pm, Monday to Saturday. Our Retail Volunteers…  Serve our Customers.  Sort our Donations.  Organise our Stock.  Merchandise our Shop Floor.  Create wonderful Window Displays.  and more… In return, we can offer you the opportunity to…  Gain Retail experience.  Meet new people.  Develop your skills.  Increase your confidence.  Have some fun.  Contribute to the valuable services provided by Ayrshire Cancer Support. We ask all new Volunteers to be prepared to undertake training relevant to the role prior to commencing. Associated Travel Expenses will be reimbursed. Thank you for your interest in our Hospital Support Volunteer Role. Ayrshire Cancer Support has operated since 1982, providing emotional support and practical help to those affected by cancer in Ayrshire. Our Volunteers make a vital contribution, by enabling the continuation of the support we offer. Kind, Caring, Compassionate? Our Hospital Support Volunteers are directly involved with visitors to the Kyle Ward Oncology Day Unit (Ailsa Campus, Ayr), offering support in a safe and positive environment, where there is also continuous support from NHS staff and other volunteers. Our Hospital Support Volunteers…  Enjoy interacting with people.  Are supportive, non-judgemental and accepting of others.  Provide warmth, sensitivity and a willingness to listen.  Display patience and understanding.  Are caring, empathetic, and have a sensitive approach.  Understand the importance of confidentiality and providing a regular commitment.  Contribute to the valuable services provided by Ayrshire Cancer Support We ask our Hospital Support Volunteers to…  Undertake training relevant to the role – which includes shadowing a Hospital Support Volunteer.  Adhere to the policies and procedures of ACS.  Offer a warm welcome in clinical waiting areas.  Put visitors and patients at ease, providing a listening ear with an understanding manner.  Offer and prepare light refreshments (tea/coffee/water/juice).  Be familiar with the services offered by ACS. Our Hospital Support Volunteers offer emotional support, but must not offer advice or medical opinion on a patient’s treatment. Our Volunteers are in place to complement the work of staff and are not used to replace roles normally undertaken by employees. Ayrshire Cancer Support has operated since 1982, providing emotional support and practical help to those affected by cancer in Ayrshire. Our Volunteers make a vital contribution, by enabling the continuation of the support we offer. Kind, Caring, Compassionate? Our Centre Support Volunteers are directly involved with visitors to our Drop-In areas within our Centres (Kilmarnock and Ayr), offering support in a safe and positive environment during our opening hours between Monday and Friday. There is also continuous support from our staff and other volunteers. Volunteer coverage is provided between 9.00am to 1.00am or 1.00pm to 5.00pm on a chosen day or days of the week. Our Centre Support Volunteers…  Enjoy interacting with people.  Are supportive, non-judgemental and accepting of others.  Provide warmth, sensitivity and a willingness to listen.  Display patience and understanding.  Are caring, empathetic, and have a sensitive approach.  Understand the importance of confidentiality and providing a regular commitment.  Contribute to the valuable services provided by Ayrshire Cancer Support We ask our Centre Support Volunteers to…  Undertake training relevant to the role – which includes shadowing a Centre Support Volunteer.  Adhere to the policies and procedures of ACS.  Offer a warm welcome in our Drop-In area(s).  Put visitors and patients at ease, providing a listening ear with an understanding manner.  Offer and prepare light refreshments (tea/coffee/water/juice).  Be familiar with the services offered by ACS.  Handle and receipt monetary donations received within our centres. Our Centre Support Volunteers offer emotional support, but must not offer advice or medical opinion on a patient’s treatment. Our Volunteers are in place to complement the work of staff and are not used to replace roles normally undertaken by employees. Associated Travel Expenses will be reimbursed.
