We are particularly looking for new volunteers in the Edinburgh & Lothian area who are available and keen to support with providing first aid cover at the NHS Lothian mass Covid-19 vaccination centres. Primarily, this will require Monday to Friday daytime availability.
As a first aider, you will be able to attend an unrivalled range of exciting events. From concerts, gigs, national sporting events and theatre productions to community charity events, festivals and first aid awareness talks. To be part of a team providing first aid services within the local community, to keep the public safe and give support to medical professionals as required within current guidelines.
Criteria
● Genuine interest in the work of St Andrew’s First Aid in their community.
● Aged 16 years or over.
● Good level of oral and written communication skills.
● A team player.
● Willing and committed to take part in any training required.
● Willing to attend duties aligning with the area’s needs.
● Be subjected to background checks through Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme in relation to regulated work with both children and protected adults.
Public Duties
● Work as part of a team in delivering first aid cover at public events.
● Sign up for public duties in advance, attend in the time specified and give reasonable notice when unavailable, so other arrangements can be made.
● Know your first aid limitations and summon assistance when needed.
● Follow St Andrews First Aid protocols and procedures.
● Responsible for St Andrews First Aid equipment during duties.
● Assist with setting up and taking down first aid posts and stalls at events. ● Complete 60 hours of public duties annually.
● Respect confidentiality of individuals receiving treatment at all times.
● Accountable for ensuring own transport is arranged to and from public duties.
Communication
● Maintain reliable methods of communication, i.e. phone and email, keeping up regular contact with Company leaders and the Corps team.
● Ensure to inform Commandant if and when extended absences will be taken. ● Inform Event lead if you have any restrictions to performing your duties.
Meetings
● Attend the majority of Company meetings in order to maintain skills and communication with the team.
Personal Presentation
● Represent St Andrews First Aid in a professional manner at public events.
● Maintain professional attire and appropriate use of uniform.
