Current opportunities

Our free Community Transport Service helps connect older people with limited transport options, to services such as hospital appointments and social activities. This helps them maintain their independence and get to where they need to be without hassle and stress. At the moment, this service operates largely around Blairgowrie and Rattray and the surrounding areas, however we will be able to increase our service areas with more volunteers. Our volunteer drivers are responsible for collecting clients from their own homes in their own cars, and taking them wherever they need to go. The volunteers provide a friendly, comfortable transport option, a helping arm, and assist clients to their appointments. What’s in it for you? paid mileage at 0.45p/mile, a chance to help older people- particularly during these difficult times by providing a safer option than public transport or driving, a chance to meet new people, and get involved in the community Elder Voice is affiliated to NHS Patient Transport. Due to the nature of this voluntary work, Elder Voice comply with CRBS Disclosure Scotland procedures and all volunteer drivers undergo a PVG disclosure. We will be adhering to all government covid-19 regulations.

Loneliness is a major issue that is now widely recognised in society today. 200,000 people in Scotland will go half a week without a visit or call from anyone. This problem has been heightened by coronavirus restrictions, in which our usual ways of seeing family, friends, or just familiar faces have been put on pause. Our Telephone Befrienders can help combat this problem by offering encouragement and support, and reducing the amount of time spent that some elderly individuals spend without talking to anyone. Often Befriending Telephone calls can lead to a friendship between the volunteer and older individual, which can provide enormous benefits for both individuals. Our clients are always incredibly grateful for a chat, and for someone to check in with them. This service is available to anyone across Perth and Kinross. Due to the nature of this work, Elder Voice comply with CRBS Disclosure Scotland procedures, and all volunteers undergo PVG disclosures.

Our free Shopping Service provides help for those who find it difficult to pick up their prescriptions or do their own shopping, such as the elderly, or those that are self-isolating due to covid-19. This ensures that individuals have access to groceries and their prescriptions, without having to arrange home delivery, or put themselves at risk by going shopping.
